BIOGRAPHY

Kunstzentrum SOKO was founded in 2019 in Basel with the idea of enriching the cultural life of the community and offering events that connect people through art, tradition. The founders of the center are musically educated artists with rich experience in musical groups and various cultural projects, both in Serbia and in Switzerland.

The first major event was the Ball in honor of Saint Sava in 2020, which laid the foundation for the SOKO center's vision - to offer a new type of cultural content that has not been sufficiently represented in the diaspora, to revive and present the city's artistic and musical traditions, while preserving the rich rural heritage that has been nurtured in the diaspora for decades.

Since then, Kunstzentrum SOKO has developed and nurtured a diverse program:

  • Concerts and musical evenings - from traditional Serbian music to international programs for children and adults. Of particular note is the annual Christmas concert "Children Create Music", which has been held in Basel for several years and has grown into a recognizable tradition.

  • Theater performances - the art center regularly organizes guest performances by drama artists and performances for children and adults, which contribute to the preservation of language and cultural identity in the diaspora.

  • Workshops and seminars - educational workshops dedicated to music, acting, tradition, as well as programs for the youngest that connect play, song, development of motor skills and speech.

  • Literary evenings and book promotions - meetings with writers and artists.

The SOKO art center is a cultural center in Basel, a place where tradition is revived, and children, youth and adults have the opportunity to create, learn and enjoy artistic experiences together.
